State Route 900, Issaquah, 2010
In March of 2009, ICON Materials commenced Phase 2 of the SR 900 widening project in Issaquah. This job widened SR 900 to four lanes from SE 78th to Newport Way. This section of road is heavily traveled and a source of constant congestion. The project also included the installation of a turn lane, bicycle lanes and raised sidewalks. The sidewalks, made out of pervious concrete, reduce the stormwater runoff. Two fish-habitat creeks cross the roadway and required special care. Tibbetts Creek called for widening of an existing bridge while a tributary to Tibbetts Creek had a nine-foot wide culvert installed to replace a small tunnel. Crews performed stream mitigation in many areas along the project and soon salmon were seen swimming in streams that were not previously accessible. New retaining walls were built in several areas with a finish which fits the natural look of the surrounding area. All new storm sewers and a 42” water line were installed along the whole length of the roadway. ICON Materials completed the paving of the roadway with asphalt from our Auburn facility, transported to the site with our fleet of trucks.
